How Trip Insurance Works on Roam
One of the biggest concerns in peer-to-peer car rental is: what happens if something goes wrong? That's exactly the problem our insurance program is designed to solve.
How it works
Every booking on Roam automatically includes trip-based insurance coverage. There's nothing extra to buy or opt into. When a booking is confirmed, coverage activates for the duration of the trip.
What's covered
Our insurance program covers:
- Collision damage to the host's vehicle during the rental period
- Third-party liability for bodily injury or property damage caused during the trip
- Theft protection for the vehicle during the booking window
- Personal accident coverage for the driver and passengers
Coverage limits vary by vehicle value and are disclosed on every listing page before you book.
What's not covered
Like any insurance, there are exclusions:
- Damage caused while driving under the influence
- Use of the vehicle outside the agreed rental area
- Wear and tear, mechanical failure, or pre-existing damage
- Incidents involving unlicensed or unauthorized drivers
- Off-road driving unless the vehicle and listing explicitly allow it
How claims work
If an incident occurs during your trip:
- Document everything. Take photos of any damage and the scene
- Report immediately. Use the in-app incident report or contact support
- We handle the rest. Our claims team coordinates with the insurance provider, gathers documentation, and processes the claim
Hosts don't need to chase renters. Renters don't need to negotiate with hosts. The platform handles the process end to end.
For hosts
Your personal auto insurance is not affected by Roam rentals. Our trip-based coverage is a separate, commercial policy that activates only during booked periods. Your vehicle is covered by your own insurance at all other times.
